Celebrating the First Week of December

Hello Healthy Hub Fans!

As we step into December, let’s embrace the spirit of celebration while focusing on our health and well-being. This month is filled with opportunities to reflect, connect, and indulge in joyful moments. Here’s what’s happening in the first week of December:

December 4: National Cookie Day

Healthy Treats for the Holidays
Who doesn’t love cookies? On National Cookie Day, why not try baking some healthier versions? Consider using whole grain flours, natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup, and adding in nutritious ingredients like oats, nuts, or dried fruits. Share your creations with family and friends as a delightful way to spread holiday cheer! Try this recipe 👇

Ingredients

1 ¼ cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup white whole wheat flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted and cooled
1 large egg
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
½ cup honey
⅓ cup dark chocolate chips
¼ cup raisins
¼ cup well chopped raw walnuts or pecans (in this
recipe, we usually go for pecans, but both are
delicious) or an additional 2 tablespoons chocolate
chips and 2 tablespoons raisins
Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together the oats, flour, baking
powder, cinnamon, and salt.
In a medium bowl, combine the applesauce, butter,
egg, vanilla, and honey. Whisk until blended.
Pour the liquid mixture into the flour mixture and stir
just until combined. The dough will be wet and sticky.
Fold in the chocolate chips, raisins, and walnuts. Place
in the refrigerator and let chill for at least 30 minutes or
up to 3 days.
When ready to bake, place a rack in the center of your
oven and preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a
large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a
silicone baking sheet.

Mindful Moments

As we navigate through this busy season, take time for yourself. Incorporate mindfulness practices such as meditation or gentle yoga into your routine. These practices can help reduce stress and keep you grounded amidst holiday hustle.

Upcoming Highlights

  • December 13: National Cocoa Day – Get ready to cozy up with a warm cup of cocoa! Try making a healthier version using unsweetened cocoa powder, almond milk, and a touch of natural sweetener.
  • December 21: Winter Solstice – Embrace the beauty of winter and reflect on your goals for the upcoming year.

Final Thoughts

As we celebrate these special days in December, let’s remember to prioritize our health and well-being. Small changes can lead to significant impacts on our wellness journey. I’m here to support you every step of the way!
