National Nutrition Month- MARCH: Fueling Your Future

Hello Healthy Hub Fans!

As we step into March☘️, we're excited to celebrate National Nutrition Month with you! This year's theme, "Fuel for the Future," highlights the importance of nourishing our bodies at every age and making sustainable food choices. Let's explore how we can embrace this theme in our daily lives.

Whole Foods Revival

One of the emerging trends for 2025 is a return to whole foods. Instead of relying on processed "health" foods, try incorporating more single-ingredient meals into your diet. For example, a simple breakfast of eggs, sardines, and raw veggies can be both nutritious and easy to prepare. Remember, nutrient density is key!

Tip of the week: Try replacing one processed food item in your diet with a whole food alternative this week. Your body will thank you!

Fitness Focus: Functional Movement

As we fuel our bodies, let's also consider how we move them. Functional movement is gaining popularity, with more people embracing low-level movements like walking, climbing, and strength training. These exercises not only improve our physical health but also support our longevity. If you are over 40, our bodies are not responding to the long intense cardio or HIIT workouts as they did in our 20s. Keeping our cortisol levels down is key to fitness and building muscle mass is more important than before! Less is more right now!

Challenge of the week: Incorporate 10 minutes of walking or 30-40 air squats after each meal. This simple habit can boost your metabolism and improve muscle tone. I try to do 20 minutes on a treadmill or elliptical before my weight lifting. Sometimes I choose to do 5-10 minutes of rowing (I struggle to do anything beyond that).

Value for You: Mindful Eating Practice

To help you get the most out of National Nutrition Month, we're sharing a mindful eating exercise. Before your next meal, take a moment to appreciate your food, considering its origin and the nourishment it provides. This practice can help you develop a healthier relationship with food and enhance your overall well-being.

Remember, small, consistent changes can lead to significant improvements in your health. We're here to support you every step of the way on your wellness journey.

Share your progress in our Facebook group "Choose HEALTH & JOY"!

Stay nourished and keep moving!
